Acupuncturists

Diagnose, treat, and prevent disorders by stimulating specific acupuncture points within the body using acupuncture needles. May also use cups, nutritional supplements, therapeutic massage, acupressure, and other alternative health therapies.

What They Do

Acupuncturists work with patients to diagnose health issues and provide treatment by inserting thin needles into specific points on the body, following principles from traditional Chinese medicine. During a typical appointment, they begin by taking a patient's health history, examining the tongue and pulse, and discussing symptoms to understand the underlying imbalances affecting the person's wellbeing. They then carefully select and insert sterile needles at precise locations, leaving them in place for twenty to forty minutes while the patient rests quietly. Beyond needling, they may apply heat therapy using moxibustion, perform cupping treatments to improve circulation, or recommend dietary changes and herbal supplements tailored to each patient's needs.
