What They Do

Farmworkers in crop, nursery, and greenhouse operations perform the hands-on tasks that keep plants healthy and productive from planting through harvest. They spend their days working directly with vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees, and other plants, using hand tools like hoes, pruning shears, and trowels to complete essential cultivation tasks. Their responsibilities include preparing soil, planting seeds or seedlings, watering crops, removing weeds, and applying fertilizers or pesticides according to safety guidelines. As plants mature, they thin overcrowded areas, prune branches, and support climbing plants with stakes or trellises.
