What They Do

Fuel cell engineers develop and refine the technology that converts hydrogen and other fuels directly into electricity through electrochemical reactions. They spend their days designing fuel cell components like membranes, electrodes, and catalysts, then testing prototypes to improve efficiency and durability. Much of their work happens in laboratories and research facilities, where they use specialized equipment to measure cell performance, analyze chemical reactions, and troubleshoot technical problems. They also work at computer workstations running simulations, creating CAD designs, and analyzing data from test runs.
