What They Do

Pharmacy technicians work alongside licensed pharmacists in retail pharmacies, hospitals, and healthcare facilities to help prepare and distribute medications. They spend their days retrieving prescription orders, counting pills, measuring liquids, and packaging medications in the correct dosages. When customers drop off prescriptions, technicians enter information into computer systems, verify insurance coverage, and often handle initial questions before the pharmacist completes the final review. In hospital settings, they may prepare sterile IV solutions in specialized clean rooms or deliver medications to different nursing units.
