What They Do

Avionics technicians work on the electronic systems that keep aircraft flying safely and efficiently. They install, maintain, and repair sophisticated equipment including navigation systems, communication radios, autopilot controls, weather radar, and flight management computers. During routine maintenance, they run diagnostic tests to identify malfunctions, interpret technical manuals and wiring diagrams, and use specialized tools like oscilloscopes and signal generators to troubleshoot problems. They also perform scheduled inspections, calibrate instruments to ensure accuracy, and document all work according to strict aviation regulations.
