What They Do

Electric motor and power tool repairers diagnose and fix problems in everything from industrial machinery motors to handheld drills and sanders. They disassemble equipment to locate faulty components, test electrical circuits with specialized meters and diagnostic tools, and replace or repair damaged parts like switches, brushes, bearings, and windings. Much of their work involves cleaning, lubricating, and reassembling motors to restore them to proper working condition. They also perform preventive maintenance on equipment to prevent future breakdowns.
