What They Do

Machine feeders and offbearers work alongside automated equipment and machine operators to keep production lines running smoothly. They load raw materials, parts, or products into machines at the beginning of the production process and remove finished or semi-finished items as they come off the line. Throughout their shifts, they monitor machines to ensure materials feed properly, adjust the positioning of items on conveyor belts or feeding mechanisms, and clear any jams or blockages that might slow production. They also inspect materials before loading to catch defects and examine finished products for quality issues.
