Patternmakers, Wood

Plan, lay out, and construct wooden unit or sectional patterns used in forming sand molds for castings.

What They Do

Patternmakers create wooden templates that serve as the foundation for manufacturing metal parts through sand casting. They work primarily in workshops or manufacturing facilities, transforming technical drawings and specifications into precise three-dimensional wooden patterns. These patterns are pressed into sand to create molds where molten metal will eventually be poured.
