Biological Science Teachers, Postsecondary

Postsecondary biological science teachers work primarily at colleges and universities, where they typically divide their time between the classroom and the research laboratory. They design and deliver lectures on topics ranging from cellular biology and genetics to ecology and evolution, adapting their teaching to different course levels from introductory surveys to advanced seminars. Beyond standing at the podium, they prepare lesson plans, create assignments and exams, grade student work, and hold office hours to provide individual guidance. Many also supervise undergraduate research projects and mentor graduate students conducting their own investigations.
