What They Do

Mathematical science teachers at the college and university level guide students through complex mathematical concepts, from calculus and linear algebra to statistics and actuarial science. They prepare and deliver lectures, design problem sets and exams, and hold office hours to help students work through challenging material. Beyond the classroom, these professors develop course syllabi, grade assignments, and continually update their teaching materials to reflect current mathematical applications and pedagogical approaches.
