What They Do

Motorboat mechanics and service technicians spend their days diagnosing and repairing the complex systems that keep recreational and commercial boats running smoothly. They work on inboard and inboard-outboard engines, troubleshooting everything from ignition problems and fuel system failures to cooling system malfunctions and electrical issues. Much of their work involves disassembling engine components, inspecting parts for wear or damage, and replacing or rebuilding systems as needed. They also perform routine maintenance tasks like changing oil, replacing spark plugs, and winterizing boats for storage.
