What They Do

Small engine mechanics spend their days diagnosing and repairing the compact engines that power lawn mowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, generators, and recreational equipment like snowmobiles and ATVs. They work with customers to identify problems, then disassemble engines to inspect internal components for wear or damage. Using diagnostic tools and their mechanical knowledge, they determine whether issues stem from fuel systems, ignition problems, or worn parts. Once they've identified the problem, they replace or repair damaged components, adjust carburetor settings, sharpen blades, change oil and filters, and perform routine maintenance tasks.
