What They Do

Range managers work with grasslands, shrublands, and other open landscapes to balance the needs of grazing livestock, wildlife, and ecosystem health. They spend considerable time outdoors assessing vegetation conditions, monitoring water sources, and evaluating how different grazing patterns affect the land. Much of their work involves developing management plans that determine when and where livestock should graze, how many animals an area can support, and what practices will prevent overgrazing or soil erosion.
