What They Do

Reinforcing iron and rebar workers spend their days preparing and installing the steel frameworks that give concrete structures their strength. They work on construction sites for buildings, bridges, highways, and other infrastructure projects, carefully measuring, cutting, and bending steel bars according to blueprints and specifications. Using rod-bending machines and hand tools, they shape reinforcing bars to precise angles and dimensions. Once prepared, they position these bars inside wooden or metal forms and tie them together with wire, creating intricate grids and cages that will be embedded in poured concrete.
