What They Do

Roustabouts work on oil rigs and drilling sites, performing essential manual labor that keeps operations running smoothly. They assemble and repair drilling equipment, move pipes and heavy machinery around the site, and maintain tools and facilities. On any given day, they might unload supplies from trucks, clean and prepare work areas, dig ditches for pipelines, or help install new equipment. Much of their work happens outdoors in remote locations, often in challenging weather conditions and rugged terrain. They typically work as part of a crew, taking direction from supervisors and coordinating with other oil field workers to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
