Automotive service technicians and mechanics spend their days diagnosing and fixing problems in cars and light trucks, working to keep vehicles running safely and efficiently. They use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify issues, then perform hands-on repairs ranging from routine oil changes and brake replacements to complex engine overhauls and transmission work. These professionals test drive vehicles to confirm problems, consult technical manuals and databases for repair procedures, and explain issues and solutions to vehicle owners.
