What They Do

Environmental science teachers at colleges and universities guide students through the complex relationships between human activities and natural systems. They prepare and deliver lectures on topics ranging from ecology and conservation to climate change and environmental policy, often incorporating current events and recent research findings into their coursework. In addition to teaching, they design course materials, create assignments and exams, and hold office hours to provide individual support to students. Many also supervise laboratory work where students conduct experiments, analyze soil or water samples, and practice field research techniques.
