What They Do

Financial examiners review banks, credit unions, mortgage companies, and other financial institutions to ensure they operate within legal boundaries and follow sound business practices. They spend their days analyzing financial records, examining loan portfolios, and evaluating risk management systems to verify that institutions comply with federal and state regulations. Much of their work involves detailed document review, checking transaction records, and running computer-based analyses to identify potential problems or violations.
