What They Do

Loan officers spend their days meeting with people who need to borrow money for homes, cars, businesses, or personal expenses. They review loan applications carefully, examining financial documents like tax returns, credit reports, pay stubs, and bank statements to determine whether applicants can realistically repay what they want to borrow. Much of their time involves interviewing clients to understand their financial situation, explaining different loan products and terms, and helping borrowers choose options that fit their budgets. They work extensively with numbers, calculating debt-to-income ratios and running scenarios through specialized software programs. When applications need additional documentation or raise concerns, loan officers follow up with applicants to gather missing information or address red flags.
