History Teachers, Postsecondary

History teachers at colleges and universities lead courses exploring everything from ancient civilizations to modern political movements. They prepare and deliver lectures, facilitate class discussions, and guide students through analyzing primary sources like historical documents, photographs, and artifacts. Beyond the classroom, they develop course syllabi, create assignments and exams, and spend considerable time reading and grading student papers. Office hours are an important part of the role, where they meet with students individually to discuss coursework, research projects, or career paths in history.
